True Confessions

Deanna received this from a former student.

Also, I wanted to tell you a story you would find funny. Our dog bit me (this is not the funny part). And I definitely needed medical attention. (Still not the funny part). My boys had to call 911 because my husband wasn’t home. So, while we were waiting for the paramedics, I was on the ground, in tears, holding my bloody arm and telling the boys through my sobs that they had to switch out the clothes because the washer just beeped and I didn’t want the clothes to smell. AND they needed to put their shoes away so the paramedics wouldn’t trip. AND they needed to move the instant pot from the counter so we didn’t seem so cluttered. It made me think of the heart attack video you sent me. And it made me laugh while I was waiting for the paramedics, I was like, “Wow, it really is true. Moms are always ‘mom-ing,’ even when they are bleeding from a puncture wound or having a heart attack.”

Hope that story put a smile on your face. I got a couple of stitches and a tetanus shot but ended up ok otherwise.

The story did give us a good laugh. However, there are some serious aspects of the story too. The boys would have been better prepared with some First Aid training of their own. Kids as young as 12 are usually ready for a class. They called Dad before they called the EMTs. While they were trying to do what mom told them, training might have given them the knowledge and the courage to call 911 first, then dad. They didn’t know how to stop the blood flow, either. Happily, everyone is fine and able to laugh about it AND will be in for some training, soon!
