National Pet Day started in 2006 in the US but it has spread quickly around the world. Colleen Paige, an animal welfare advocate, wanted to celebrate the joy pets bring to us. In addition, Colleen wanted to spotlight the pets waiting in shelters for adoption. A recent estimate is that 6.5 million animals go into shelters nationwide. Only 1.6 million find their forever homes.So take some time on April 11th to share some love with your BFF whether cat, dog, bird, reptile or little porker!
